After countless bands,
numerous club dates, and uneventful musical projects, singer/guitarist
Cliff Calabro was not prepared for what would surely change his
life forever. With the spirited desire to make a musical difference,
he fortuitously met his future bassist , Long Ly as well as drummer/vocalist
Brett Chassen at a popular Southern California music store. Ecstatic
over their common vision, it took little effort to convince his
brother, guitarist/singer Christy Lawrence to round out the quartet.
With a surplus of musical
fragments and just a few weeks of rehearsal, they happened upon
the opportunity to write, rehearse, and to record in a top Los
Angeles studio. The result of their numerous midnight sessions
was Black On Blond's debut album, "Wild Anticipation".
"In fact, right after laying down our third track, I leaned
over to Brett and asked, 'what's your last name?'. That kind
of summed up how little time we had actually spent with each other
before we suddenly realized, hey, we're making a record!",
says Long. That record garnered them critical acclaim in several
European countries as well as a featured spot on the USA Network's
"Up All Night" television show.
Knowing full well that
this was merely a stepping stone to the next plateau, Black On
Blond began performing live and refining their unmistakable sound.
"I knew from the beginning that this band was capable of
so much more. We just needed some time to grow and get to know
each other both musically and personally. We're all very proud
of that first record, but we've exceeded even our own expectations
with our new material", proclaims Cliff.
One of their standout
new songs is aptly titled, "Reflections". "Reflections
basically captured the essence of the three universal questions,
who am I, where am I going, and where have I been? it's sort
of a purification, by gaining a different perspective of oneself.
When in doubt, live by the questions… eventually you'll
grow into the answers", expresses Brett.
With a year of solid
club dates behind them, it's no secret that Black On Blond's modern
edge is prevalent in their sound. But, it's their melodic acoustic
element along with their electric energy that has helped them
gain an undeniable crossover appeal, much to the approval of their
fans. Songs like "Reflections" and "Dreaming Out
Loud" are prime examples. Christy reveals, "we blend
an active stage show with energetic melodic songs about life.
These are the things I have always wanted to achieve in a band.
As a guitarist, this allows me to be both expressive and passionate".
"WE MAKE MUSIC
THAT PEOPLE CAN TOUCH AND UNDERSTAND. MUSIC THAT HELPS THE LISTENER
GAIN ACCESS TO OUR EMOTIONS AND LIVES. LIKE A MUSICAL WINDOW
INTO OUR HEADS. THEY CAN LOOK AT THEIR WORLD THROUGH OUR EYES".- BLACK ON
BLOND
